 Making a Bunch of Points Along a Line

For those of you that need to make a bunch of points, for example labeling grid "tick marks" do not want to manually make all the points, try the following in ArcGIS 9.1. To start, you will need a line layer selectable and be editing a point layer and have your point layer as the target for editing. Now select a line that you want to add points along and then click the Editor down arrow on the Editing Toolbar. Then select divide, enter your point placement options, and click OK. ArcMap will then use the line to automatically place points along the line using the options you provided.
